Face Lift
It is inevitable that the face will age. Even after a life of diligent skin care, the passage of time eventually brings crow's feet, forehead creases, a loosening of the skin on the face and neck, and other changes that make our patients feel less attractive than they once were. Face lift surgery is one option our Chicago patients can choose to counteract the effects of aging, heredity, personal habits, gravity, and sun exposure.
To begin the face lift procedure, an incision must be made in the ear area. With the skin lifted, Dr. Lewis can reposition and tighten the underlying muscle and connective tissue, remove any unwanted fat, and trim the excess skin. Using fine sutures and/or metal clips specially designed for face lift surgery, Dr. Lewis will close the incisions, which are carefully placed so that any scars will be camouflaged in the natural creases of the face. You will likely feel a bit of pain in the days following your surgery, as well as some swelling and bruising. However, prescribed medication and cold compresses can help keep discomfort at a minimum.

Rhinoplasty
Nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is among the most common of all cosmetic procedures performed today. Rhinoplasty can narrow the nostrils, reshape the tip or bridge of the nose, alter the angle between the nose and upper lip, or generally reduce or increase the size of a patient’s nose. The surgery generally takes an hour or two to complete (although more complicated rhinoplasty cases might require more time). During the procedure, an incision is made across the columella, the delicate “column” of tissue that separates the two nostrils. The skin is then lifted so that the bone and cartilage framework underneath can be sculpted into the desired shape. Post-operational discomfort is often minimal and is usually related to swelling that occurs around the nose and eye area. In fact, many patients are surprised at how quickly they recover.

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is offered to our Chicago patients who wish to remove fat, excess skin, or muscle from their upper and lower eyelids. The procedure tones down drooping upper eyelids, reduces the puffy bags that appear under the eyes, and is a good remedy for eyes that look perpetually tired or older than their years. Often, our blepharoplasty patients report that their new appearance makes them feel even more refreshed and self-confident than they had anticipated.
Prior to a patient's eyelid surgery, Dr. Lewis and the staff at our Chicago office provide as much information as possible on the procedure. It is important to know how blepharoplasty is performed, what type of results can be expected, and what conditions eyelid surgery can (and cannot) correct. For instance, this type of eyelid surgery will not remove crow's feet, erase dark circles, or elevate sagging eyebrows.
Dr. Lewis will inquire about your expectations for this surgery and determine whether there are any additional procedures that could be performed in combination with your eyelid surgery. Some of our patients, for example, will undergo face lift surgery at the same that they have eyelid surgery.

Browlift
As most people age, the brow line begins to naturally drop. The lowered position of the eyebrow can make a person's eyes appear tired and weary. A browlift, which surgically raises the position of the eyebrow, can eliminate the impression of too much skin in the upper eyelid area. At Northwestern Associates in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Lewis also performs many endoscopic browlifts, a considerably less-invasive option that uses small incisions behind the hairline.
Facial Implants
Some of our patients opt for chin and cheek implants, both excellent options for bringing definition to the middle and lower portions of the face. Chin implants (placed either through an incision inside the mouth or through a small incision under the chin) strengthen the jaw and provide a sense of balance to the face. Cervicoplasty (Neck Lift)
Some patients find that their neck begins to show age before their face does. Excess skin or excessively loose skin in the neck area can result in a "turkey wattle" look that makes a person appear older or heavier than they truly are. Cervicoplasty, or neck lift, is a procedure that surgically removes the problematic bands of skin. The skin is pulled up and back to rejuvenate the jaw line, with the incisions hidden behind the ears.
